Billing

Our fees are changing as of 1st March 2023. General Practice is under enormous pressure due to the long-term freezing of the Medicare Rebates and minimal increases over the last few years. The costs of running a Practice are continually increasing, and regretfully we can no longer continue to absorb these costs.

We have therefore made the difficult decision to discontinue bulk-billing for children under the age of 16 years.

Discounted fees will apply for children under the age of 6. Each child seen will require a separate appointment.  Discounted fees will still apply for pensioners.

Some services, such as Annual Health Assessments for patients aged 75+, Care Plans and Care Plan Reviews, and Flu and Covid Vaccinations, will continue to be bulk-billed.

Nurse appointments, where there is no need to see the doctor, will also attract a fee. Regretfully we are unable to continue to offer this service without a private fee.

Please note that while you may book a standard consultation (less than 20 minutes), sometimes consultations may take longer than expected, and you will be charged for the longer time spent with your doctor. Different consultation types, such as Ante-Natal appointments, Mental Health Care Plans & etc. may attract a different fee from standard appointments.  Speak to our friendly reception staff if you would like further information.

Kareela Family Practice is committed to providing the highest quality healthcare service to our patients, and we believe that introducing private billing for all patients, and offering discounts for children under 6 years and pensioners, will enable us to continue to do so.

By implementing the new fee policy in this manner, we believe the change will be fair and equitable. If you are experiencing difficulties in paying our fees, please have a confidential discussion with your doctor for consideration of a discounted fee.
